8. Monitoring, Updates, and Review Timing
How the methodology is kept current.
Greenpixie maintains the methodology on a rolling basis rather than on a fixed release cycle. Greenpixie retrieves the source data for every update. On each update it also retrieves the data inside each source's revision window again. Where a source publishes at monthly or yearly resolution, the hours after its latest published period carry the most recent comparable published data until the figure for those hours is published.
As their publishers issue new editions, Greenpixie reviews and updates the emission factor tables and the transmission and distribution loss statistics. As cloud providers open cloud regions or publish or revise a location, and as grid areas are retired or absorbed into others, Greenpixie reviews the cloud region mappings. Where a cloud region or a grid area is added, Greenpixie calculates its factors back across the whole published series. Where the mapping of a configured cloud region changes from a given date, such as where a grid area is retired or absorbed into another, the change takes effect from that date and is not carried back across the series. Where Greenpixie finds a mapping or a factor to have been wrong, the correction covers the whole series. As each cloud provider publishes a new figure, Greenpixie refreshes the power usage effectiveness values for that cloud provider. Each of the three supported cloud providers publishes annually, on its own reporting calendar. Where a change to the GHG Protocol, an ISO standard or a relevant regulatory framework affects the calculation or reporting approach, Greenpixie incorporates that change.
