8. Monitoring, Updates, and Review Timing
How the methodology is kept current.
Greenpixie maintains the methodology on a rolling basis rather than on a fixed release cycle. When cloud providers release new instance families, new processor designs, or new accelerators, Greenpixie researches the specifications those cloud providers publish and records them for the new hardware.
Greenpixie revises the coefficients it holds for each component as chip vendors and server, drive, and network equipment manufacturers publish life cycle assessments and product carbon footprints for new hardware, and as die analyses are published for new memory and NAND flash generations. It re-reads the useful life the cloud providers state for their server equipment at each release, as a cloud provider may revise that period without announcement. A revision of that kind moves every figure this methodology produces.
